a day in the life

Noah eats baby food sweet potatoes, kidney beans, peaches, pears, prunes, oatmeal and apples.  He also eats real food rice, apples, peaches, blueberries, and bananas.  Sometimes I make him eat butternut squash, peas, and green beans, but he protests.  He eats pureed carrots ok, but he can’t seem to digest them.  His food generally comes in skull and crossbones shapes, because he’s a pirate baby.

A lot of the morning is spent chasing the kitty.  She’s pretty patient, considering, but sometimes when things get too out of hand, we turn on the cat tv.  This means putting the kitty outside the patio door, so he can see her without grabbing.  She will stand there looking in becuase she wants back inside, so they can be close but not in danger.  Noah also loves regular tv, but we try to keep him from watching too much- although I did sit him down for some Fraggle Rock when he was too sick to play.  At his Grandpa’s, Noah likes to watch golf and the news, and he likes the Daily Show intro when we watch it.

Cupboards and drawers are Noah’s new interest.  I let him open the clothes drawers and the tupperware cupboard, but most cupboards are “Not for babies”.  The best cupboard is the little one on the cd changer- not only does the stereo make music, but if he can get that door open, there are cd’s to take out.

After some playing, it’s time for a nap.  It’s easy to tell when Noah gets tired, because he starts to fall over all the time.  He doesn’t give up on playing, but he does hurt himself more, and he cries more over the little stuff.   So we usually walk around a bit in the Ergo to relax, then try to get him into his crib.  Some days that works, some days it doesn’t.  But he does love riding around with Mommy or Daddy in the Ergo.  Sometimes Dave will let him take his entire nap in the Ergo, but I need him to get in his crib so I can have a few minutes to get stuff done.

So cute! Where did Noah get his skull & crossbones onesie? Essential for the stylish baby pirate. He is starting to look like you guys, and not just a generic cute baby.

The skull and crossbones onesie was an impulse buy, and probably a mistake- it only came in long sleeve, and the biggest size was 12 months, so he won’t have many days cool enough to wear it. But it was the coolest baby outfit I’ve ever seen at babys’r’us, and I felt like treating myself. He mostly wears just a onesie unless we’re going somewhere air conditioned, or if he wants to look more grown-up. Because big kids wear pants.

Aw… I miss Noah’s routine. Time for another visit! Does Noah crawl with alternating hands and knees yet, or does he still do the “both hands, then the feet” method?

He is cross-crawling now, and he’s fast. For a while he was gollum- or gimp-crawling, on one foot and one knee, but now he only does that when he’s getting tired.
