snow baby

We made the big trip up to REI to get Noah a good snowsuit for Christmas, and I’m really pleased with it.  It’s quilted and down-filled, so that should be the most warmth for the thickness.  We tried it on in the store and Noah did some crawling, so he can still get around although it does slow him down a little bit- everyone who saw him thought it was adorable.  Also, two thumbs up to REI in Conshohocken for having a changing table in their clean, spacious bathroom.

The snowsuit has fold-over flaps on the hands and feet, so it should be real warm, and we also picked out some mittens because last year’s are leaving dents in his wrists- he didn’t mind the feel of the mittens or hand-flaps, but he was very confused when he tried to grab stuff.

I wish we’d had this suit on Saturday when we went to the carolling and tree lighting downtown.  As fond as we are of Swarthmore, I have to say that the tree is more of a Christmas bush.  It was snow-raining and breezy, and so even though Noah enjoyed lots of people standing around singing, we all got really cold.  I was freezing through my jeans, and even though Noah was wearing his coat and riding in the Ergo, he didn’t have mittens on.  Dave kept trying to tuck in his little hands to keep them warm, and Noah kept pulling them out, then whimpering because he was cold.  I felt so bad about that.  But from now on he will always be down-warmed.

Hee… mittens or hand flaps would be confusing for someone so into using his hands. I think he’ll appreciate it in the end, though. I’m looking forward to snowsuit cuteness at Christmas!

Speaking of which, Chandra asked what the theme was for our Christmas tree this year. I said we hadn’t talked about it yet. She and I came up with two suggestions: (1) Things the baby wants to touch, but isn’t allowed to; or (2) a two-tiered tree, with the bottom theme being things Noah can touch, and the top being things he can’t. Do you have any better ideas?

I happened to be on the REI website, and checked out the toddler snowsuits. If Noah’s is the one I think it is, it looks like a mini space suit 🙂

For the tree – I think Mom took some of our painted wooden & cross stitched ornaments out with her, and I was going to bring my tin stars to help fill in space. If we want an actual theme, how about “edible”? Gingerbread men, etc.
