Noah skates

My kid just turned 2, and he can flipping skate!  We’ve only taken him once, but he improved incredibly over the hour we were out there.  I tried the strap-on skates on him at home in the basement to make sure they would fit over his winter boots, because they said they were for sizes 7-13, and he is only in a 6 right now, but they seemed fine.  He walked around the basement fairly well (these skates are not sharp, they have double aluminum blades and actually can’t be sharpened.)

We got to the rink, and 3 different people asked me where I got those skates before we even got on the ice- Noah was definitely the youngest kid there, but there were a couple of other preschoolers.  The smallest size the rink rents is I think 9, so that would be a while for Noah.

When he stepped on the ice, his feet shot out instantly- I guess he got used to walking on the blades and was not expecting the slipperiness.  It was hard at first to get him to try to keep his feet under him, but we started to let him land (gently) on his bottom every time he lost his balance, and he really started to get the hang of it.  By the end, he could go about 4-5 feet under his own steam (holding my hand) before he would fall.  I did have my doubts beforehand, but I’m thrilled with how it went.

Yay! That video was adorable. He’s going to be an excellent covert Canadian.

After a couple more sessions, Noah will probably skate as well as I do. He sure looks happy in the video. I’m amazed at how well he stays on his feet, and that his spacesuit still fits!

Yeah, I’m really happy with that snowsuit- it’s supposed to be an 18-month, and we must have really hit the sweet spot to get to use it for 2 winters. It is a little tight, and he has to wear a disposable diaper or underwear and he can’t use the hand and foot covers, but it’s still a down suit which can’t be beat! I tried to put a review on about how awesome it was, but I got frustrated and didn’t want to register.
